Babs got word that California Caverns was experiencing interior flooding due to the excessive rain from the past couple weeks. The owners informed us that they closed the cave indefinitely and we would not be allowed in to collect samples. Davis had also experienced some heavy rainfall as well as the large fires that were flaring up all over California.
We did however drive up to try to collect some surrounding water and check out what the exterior of the cave looked like. When we arrived, the cave and surrounding environment looked in pretty good shape. Some branches were tossed about from the rains, but the rivers did not seem at overflowing capacity.
Kim, Babs and I strategically collected water samples from some of the rivers that appeared to flow directly over the cave (input waters).
We're worried about being able to continue the monthly sampling but are hoping for the best.
